The shift by European and American billionaires over the last decade from sailing yachts to huge motoryachts has clearly stirred up the designers of big sailing vessels.
Reichel Pugh Yacht Design has joined forces with Design Unlimited (an interior design group) to produce plans for a vessel that has all the space advantages of a motor yacht while losing none of the grace and silence that is the trademark of sailing boats.
The proposed three-masted yacht will be 100m (325ft) long with a beam of about 15m (50ft) and is expected to top speeds of 20 knots under sail. The designers at Design Unlimited say the yacht will be "utterly modern yet graceful" and will have enormous external areas fitted for sunbaking, dining and general relaxation. The outdoor areas will be designed to offer guests perfect privacy.
Accommodation will be spread over three decks. The owner's suite and a second VIP suite will be complemented by four additional double cabins and two twin cabins. Forward of the bridge will be crew quarters for 12.
The internal communial areas will maximise the use of natural light and a circular central lobby with have an open spiral staircase to the lower decks.
As well as lounge and dining areas the yacht will have its own cinema and gym.
The plans are being marketed in Europe but no prospective buyer has yet been named.
