The world's most spectacular harbour is in the spotlight for the world's most impressive light festival, Vivid 2017, kicking off on Friday May 26 and continueing until Saturday June 17. This event is expected to attract over two million spectators on both land and water.
Rafts of recreational boaters head out to check out Vivid, to cruise the harbour and drop into Darling Harbour marina, which is usually booked out by a motorboat club or two.
It's great fun idling around on a winter's night while taking in the amazing light show. Watch the neons dance on the harbour's steely surface as the city and its icons are illuminated in ways you've never seen before. Don't forget a blanket and a thermos at least.
But if you are planning to use your own boat to see the spectacular Vivid Sydney light show on the Harbor there are a few more serious things you need to consider before you cast off.
Those planning to enjoy the show from the water need to be mindful of vessel traffic, especially considering the high number of vessels expected on the water for this year's event.
Safe navigation practices are vital, so be sure to slow down, keep a proper lookout at all times and display the correct navigation lights to stay bright when boating at night.
Vessel owners are also reminded that entry into both Darling Harbour and Sydney Cove (Circular Quay) will be restricted during the event.
More information on wharf closures and on water-restrictions can be found on this Boating Guide to Vivid.
