70 Queensland boat ramps revamped
State Government delivers $30 million boost for Queensland boaties and their infrastructureMore than 70 boat ramps across Queensland will receive a $30 million boost over the next two years under the State Government’s Marine Infrastructure Fund, announced Main Roads and Ports Minister Mark Bailey (September 21, 2016).
"Boaties across Queensland will benefit from new and upgraded boat ramps, floating walkways, pontoons and improved access to channels as part of this program," Mr Bailey said.
"One in every 19 Queenslanders own a boat, and the popularity of recreational boating and fishing is continually increasing — it’s important that we keep up with this demand.
"That’s why we’re investing more than $30 million in vital boating infrastructure upgrades under the Marine Infrastructure Fund over the next two years."
Mr Bailey said many of the projects were identified through the online recreational boating survey.
"We received more than 1000 submissions through the Get Involved website and this feedback has been invaluable in identifying which projects are most needed," he said.
"About 70 per cent of these projects are in regional Queensland and feasibility studies will also be completed across the State to investigate the possibility of future works."
Mr Bailey said the Marine Infrastructure Fund demonstrated the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to Queensland’s boating community.
"With Queensland leading the nation with boat registrations, it’s important we cater for growth and demand well into the future."
The 70 projects delivered as part of the Marine Infrastructure Fund, include:
>> Installation of new pontoon at Edmonton boat ramp
>> Installation of new floating walkway at Bluewater Marina
>> Rebuild existing boat ramp plus floating walkway at Fearnley Street, Cairns
>> Upgrade ramp at Hull Heads, Tully Hull Road
>> Resurface existing boat ramp at Hell Hole Landing
>> Duplication of boat ramp from two to four lanes at Proserpine River
>> Upgrade the existing facility at Glebe Weir
>> New two lane boat ramp plus floating walkway at Bullock Point Road
>> Installation of two new floating walkways at Urangan Boat Harbour, Hervey Bay
>> Installation of new pontoon at Penny Lane, Mooloolaba
>> Rebuild existing boat ramp at Lara Street, Currimundi
>> Installation of new pontoon at Chinchilla Weir
