2024 Yellowfin YF-70, YF-76 lift the extended-cab fishing boat game

Yellowfin's Southerner range makes way for two new models with extra protection, comfort and features

Australian alloy plate specialist Yellowfin has relaunched its flagship Southerner line of boats, adding new names, a new logo and better weather protection via an extended cabin and hardtop.

The top-ranked 7000 Southerner and 7600 Southerner have become the YF-70 Extended Cab and YF-76 Extended Cab. The boats keep their 6.0mm-thick plate alloy bottoms and transoms, and 4.0-mm sides, as well as the standard palette of colours including Quantum White, Abyss Black, Vortex Grey and Pipeline Grey, but add a new one called Deep Ocean Blue.

Yellowfin says the new extended cab design, that brings the trailing edge of the cab well past the helm seats, has increased the volume of area protected by the structure by 45.0 percent.

Standard features across both models include UDek flooring and trim; a redesigned live bait tank that increases water flow; transom cutting board; stainless steel rod holders; a wireless phone charger; a 5.0-inch Garmin multifunction chartplotter and fishfinder, marine radio and GT54 transducer; Zipwake trim tabs; Plastimo offshore compass; self-draining deck; and a bow-mounted electric trolling motor bracket.

The boats keep their Inter-Lok Core internal stringer system and ride on the Yellowfin HD-R hull, which appears to have added a couple of lifting strakes in the bow section since last we’ve taken a close look.

Both the Yellowfin YF-70 Extended Cab and the YF-76 Extended Cab have access to a Fishing Edition package that adds a better bait station; deck wash; roller door on the cabin; an all-new option on the Yellowfin range of suspension seats behind the console; an Icy Tek icebox; Yellowfin-randed fish bags for storing the catch; underwater lights; a Garmin radio with AIS; side coaming cushions; game rod holders; twin windscreen wipers; two wireless phone chargers and a different-look UDek floor and trim.

The new optional suspension seats can adjust for torsion and will make it much more comfortable for those using them while punching offshore or back home.

The new Yellowfin YF-70 Extended Cab and Yellowfin YF-76 Extended Cab also feature a much wider dash than before, extending over the entry to the forward cabin. It allows owners to fit up to a 19.0-inch chartplotter at the wheel, and a second screen of up to 16.0 inches in size port of the helm.

Also optional on the two new range-toppers are the choice of a Savwinch CS1000 drum anchor winch with Savwinch’s Fast Fall anchor system; a more powerful 1kW transducer, and a seat behind the helm built on top of an upright fridge.

Yellowfin product analyst Nathan Shaw said the two new extended cab models were the result of “countless hours of market research, product design, testing and review, by a passionate team of research and development experts”.

“Seeing the launch is not only extremely rewarding, but exciting, as we pave the way for the future of offshore boating and game fishing – we’re hungry to continue raising the bar of the Australian boating industry,” he said.

The new models are on sale now from any one of Yellowfin’s network of 16 dealers spread throughout Australia.
