2024 Yamaha JetFish unveiled after first edition sells out

Yamaha Australia’s dedicated fishing jet ski adds a bigger engine and Garmin touchscreen

The Jet Ski fishing segment in Australia has received another boost after Yamaha released its second-generation JetFish model after the first edition, launched last year, sold out.

The original Yamaha JetFish, based on the 2023 Yamaha FX HO WaveRunner, was unveiled at last year’s Sydney International Boat Show and sold via selected dealers in Queensland, NSW and Victoria.

But after the initial allocation sold out, Yamaha Australia has returned with a second-generation Yamaha JetFish, this time based on the 2024 Yamaha FX HO WaveRunner.

The main changes include:

  • A new 1.9-litre four-cylinder engine (replacing the previous 1.8-litre) that coincided with the model-year update for the 2024 Yamaha FX HO – and is the biggest capacity engine in the jet ski market
  • An upgrade to an 8.0-inch touchscreen Garmin unit (in lieu of an older design with rubber buttons).

Now costing $30,899 for the ski only, excluding trailer and registration, which typically add about $3000, the price has risen by $3000 compared with the first-generation model.

That price makes the 2024 Yamaha JetFish the most expensive dedicated fishing model on sale in Australia today.

By comparison, the Sea-Doo Fish Pro Sport costs from $26,354 (ski only) and the Sea-Doo Fish Pro Trophy costs from $30,054 (ski only).

Kawasaki’s new entry into the fishing jet ski market, the Angler, is not due in local showrooms until next year when it is likely pricing will be revealed.

While Yamaha's JetFish accessories have been sold separately for two years, Yamaha Australia has taken the initiative to sell the model as a complete package.

As reported by Watercraft Zone, the final assembly and fitting of the JetFish accessories are completed by the selling dealers.

The 2024 Yamaha JetFish kit includes:

  • 8.0-inch Garmin touchscreen navigation unit and console mount
  • JetFish decals
  • 45.0-litre cooler box and frame
  • Measurements on the cooler box lid to check fish length
  • Yamaha ‘RecDeck’ rear deck platform extension
  • Four adjustable fishing rod holders on the cooler box frame
  • Externally mounted transducer depth sounder and fishfinder (versus internal mounting on Sea-Doo models)
  • Retractable rear boarding ladder

The 2024 Yamaha JetFish has a mostly white colour scheme with black and pale blue highlights.

The 2023 Yamaha JetFish model had a primarily ‘Yamaha blue’ and white colour scheme.

Yamaha says the new 1.9-litre normally aspirated engine that powers the new-generation JetFish improves hole shot performance, as well as giving the ski a higher top speed.

The 2024 units also have a larger 7.0-inch Connext touchscreen interface used to control and monitor the JetFish on the water that is also brighter so it can be seen even in direct sunlight.

The 2024 Yamaha JetFish is starting to roll into selected Yamaha WaveRunner showrooms now ahead of an official Australian launch at May's 2024 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.
