US sport boat specialist Regal has unveiled its largest model yet, the Regal 50 SAV, at the 2024 Miami International Boat Show.
The new flagship, which falls under the brand’s “Sports Activity Vessel” or “SAV” line of boats, stretches 15.4 metres from its blunt bow to the quite open, watersport-friendly stern.
Making this boat even more versatile is a set of drop-down coamings in the aft cockpit that form terraces that not only increase the beam but create more useable real estate in the entertainment section of the Regal 50 SAV, and below-decks accommodations that include a fully functioning king-size master suite and a forward U-shaped lounge and table that converts to a second spelling space.
Below decks also comes with a separate head, washbasin and enclosed shower.
Powering the whole thing is the apex predator of outboard engines – three 600hp Mercury V12 Verados.
According to internal testing, this power pack combined with the Oceantrac2 hull that sits beneath it is good enough to push the Regal 50 SAV to almost 50 knots, using around 600 litres of fuel an hour. At a 4000rpm cruising speed, the pace drops to 30 knots and fuel use drops to a more sedate 148 litres an hour.
According to Regal, the 50 SAV will have owners “enveloped in a world of luxurious spaciousness, where technology meets comfort, crafting an environment perfect for every adventure and every serene getaway”.
Being the flagship, nothing is left off the options list. According to Regal, threw are almost a million combinations available.
One we’re drawn to is something that Regal calls the “dual Garmrests”. This portmanteau refers to a set of Garmin multifunction touchscreens built into the armrests of the helm’s outermost two seats – the skipper and co-pilot sit in two central chairs before an array of three 22.0-inch screens.
The seatbacks can all fold forward to give an uninterrupted video of the three screens arrayed across the console even from the transom of the boat. The seats can alsao swivel to face aft.
Other options include a bank of lithium-ion batteries instead of an onboard genset, a Seakeeprr 6 gyroscopic stabiliser, FLIR night vision, digital switching that balances the boat’s electrical needs at the press of a virtual button, electric seat adjustments, premium audio system and more.
The terrace wings – which also feature opening doors to provide easy access dockside – drop down to create a large entertainment space featuring a “refreshment island” with wet bar, twin grills, sink and rubbish bin, a drop-down TV and plenty of face-to-face seating. It’s also the hub for the 800-watt JL Audio sound system.
But the Regal 50 SAV is also a fishing boat. Spread around its interior are 19 rod holders and a convertible transom with two pressurised livewells for deep-drop bait. You can add a pair of 5.4-metre outriggers to chase the big dogs.
Once you have your catch onboard, there are two underfloor insulated fish boxes to keep it in.
Behind the helm are a pair of “sleigh” benches that can face forward while underway or aft while anchored. The seatbacks can also fold down to provide an uninterrupted view of the cockpit – another handy fishing feature.
Behind the refreshment island is an aft-facing bench seat with a removable table. The transom features another forward-facing bench, but it folds up and away to create walk-through space. A shade cloth integrated into the trailing edge of the hardtop extends at the push of a button to shade the area.
Right forward, accessed via a port companionway, is a large bow lounge with more cupholders than there are seats It also features USB recharging points and speakers, making it an ideal teenage hub.
Another unique feature that caught our eye is a small step integrated into the swim platform that drops down into the water to make it easier to board.
It’s early days yet for an Australian introduction of this boat, however, it won’t be for everyone. Pricing is expected to start from around $3.5 million once it does.
