Delays that cut short Sea-Doo’s North American sales have had a kick-on benefit for Australia – the number of Sea-Doo jet skis available for sale here is about to jump.
Sea-Doo’s Canadian parent company, BRP, reported late last month that delays to its production line caused by suppliers who were not able to give it the parts it needed to build jet skis meant it had missed a significant number of sales during the peak North American boating season.
However, the bonus is that if you’ve been grumbling about not being able to find a personal watercraft to buy here, JSW Powersports, Sea-Doo’s largest dealership worldwide, should have plenty in stock.

JSW Powersports commercial manager James Berger said production of Sea-Doo watercraft had run late compared with previous years as parts suppliers struggled to keep up with BRP’s demand for parts.
“Production levels in recent months have been much more positive, though,” Berger said. “The balance of the MY22 and initial MY23 craft are now arriving quite late compared with previous seasons.”
That means stocks of Sea-Doo personal watercraft, previously in short supply, should soon be streaming into Australia.
“Incoming inventory is looking very strong beginning later in December, and through the first quarter of 2023 some form of normality should return to retail availability,” Berger said.
“The answer to the magic question is yes, buying a new Sea-Doo will become significantly easier in the next few weeks.”
The 2023 Sea-Doo line-up in Australia will introduce a number of running changes to the line-up compared with the previous year’s models, with slight price increases reflecting the extra benefits that owners will gain.
However, for anyone wanting to buy the new range-flagship version, the Sea-Doo Apex RS 300 teamed by former Australian Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo, the opportunity may have passed with the ski already sold out.
The new Sea-Doo range will also add another member to the Fish Pro family – the Sea-Doo Explorer Pro.
This model is optimised for long-range cruising and includes a low windscreen to protect the rider from spray, height-adjust handlebars and bow rails as well as a larger rear deck for carrying luggage or extra fuel.
Of note, all the 2023 model year Fish Pro models gain IDF, Sea-Doo’s new technology that flushes sand and debris out of the water intake and jet pump, meaning it should be easier to use in shallow sandy or even weedy water.
