2023 Raymarine Axiom2 Pro chartplotter, fishfinder series revealed

The six-core Axiom2 Pro range, which replaces the current four-core Axiom Pro range, becomes Raymarine’s most powerful multifunction display to date.

Of note, Raymarine says the Axiom2 Pro loads from a cold start much faster than before, with functions such as plotting routes and redrawing maps now happening so fast that it is classed as happening in real time.

The new Axiom2 Pro range will feature the cruising-friendly Axiom2 Pro S with single-channel CHIRP sonar and the Axiom2 Pro RPX aimed at serious anglers with 1kW CHIRP sonar as well as RealVision MAX technology that gives high-resolution images of fish and structure.

Both models will be available in 9.0-, 12.0- and 16.0-inch display sizes that perfectly match the sizes of the models they replace – updating the system is as simple as unbolting the old unit and bolting in the new one. 

The units also run Raymarine’s LightHouse operating system, and feature a brighter HyydroTough display that is better at shedding water via a new oleophobic glass developed for the device.

A recalibrated automatic light sensor will automatically adjust the screen’s brightness to suit the conditions, helping with battery management by reducing power when it is not needed.

The newly designed screens also still feature Raymarine’s HybridTouch feature that allows users to interact with the Axiom2 Pro via a touchscreen, or via a series of physical buttons to the right of the screen. Raymarine has made tweaks to the controls and rotary dial in response to customer feedback to make navigating the screen more straightforward, as well as improving the silicon cover that provides access to the MicroSD card slot used for chartplotting.

The keypad is generally used in rough conditions where navigating via the touchscreen isn’t as easy, so Raymarine has introduced a range of user-replaceable buttons that will allow owners to swap out or customise their own screens.

The plotter function now interacts with more satellites to provide a much more accurate location for users.

Once there, the unit will store more waypoints, doubling the size of the Axiom2 Pro’s onboard memory, up from 32GB in the previous generation to 64GB. It also allows users to download more apps that enhance how they interact with the device.

The new Axiom2 Pro range is also more audio-visual friendly than before and now features a micro HDMI port so that audio and video can be pushed to a remote screen. It also has stereo RCA ports for integrating with an audio system.
