2023 Haines Signature 788SF adds Mercury V10 Verado power

Haines Signature has teased its flagship sports fisher as it is fitted with Mercury’s new 400hp outboard engine

Haines Signature has teased it is racing to be one of the boat brands helping Mercury launch the all-new Mercury V10 Verado outboard engine in Australia, potentially as early as the next few weeks.

The Queensland-based boat-maker has teased a video of a 400hp version of the Mercury V10 Verado – it also comes in a 350hp tune – coming out of its shipping box in the factory and being fitted to a flagship Haines Signature 788SF.

The Haines Signature 788SF, one of the largest trailerable fibreglass boats made in Australia, is rated for up to 500hp when fitted with twin 250hp outboard engines, or 400hp when fitted with a single engine.

One of the benefits of the Mercury V10 Verado is that it is the lightest engine in its performance class, weighing in at just 316kg.

Ready for launch?

Mercury dealers in Australia have already started listing the 350hp and 400hp Mercury V10 Verado engines on their websites, although no price has yet been disclosed. Some dealers confirmed they already have pre-orders for the new engines on their books, with one taking two orders within an hour of the new V10 Verado range being launched in the US.

The Mercury V10 Verado was launched in the US last year, with the Australian launch expected for either March or April.

Another Australian fibreglass boat manufacturer, Melbourne-based Whittley, has teased it has also received one of the new V10s and is fitting it to a model it is yet to disclose. Whittley has recently released a new bowrider model and is also expected to announce an all-new boat over the coming months.
