Trailerable fibreglass cruiser and fishing specialist Whittley has revealed it will add a bowrider to its line-up just in time for summer, teasing the Whittley XS 2000 ahead of its official launch.
The new 6.17-metre “sports bowrider” model is the first time in almost a decade that Whittley will have a bowrider in its showroom. However, unlike the other sterndrive models, the Whittley XS 2000 will use an outboard engine to power it along.
The Whittley XS 2000 will tap into the brand’s Savage Javelin heritage to produce a family-friendly boat with plenty of freeboard, and ride on the proven Mako hull.
Whittley Marine Group sales and marketing manager Alan Whittley told boatsales.com.au that the Whittley XS 2000 would come in three different configurations that will even extend to the dashboard layout, and with moulded boarding platforms and a bowsprit to make it more user-friendly.
He said customers had been asking Whittley about whether it would have a bowrider in its range.
“The company has listened and felt that the time was right to produce the first of a number of new bow rider models set for release from the Whittley Marine Group,” Whittley said.
The single image of the new model, teased on social media, shows part of the bow of the new boat featuring a low, black-coloured handrail that is not featured on any other Whitley model.
The new boat is expected to feature a full-width rear lounge with a folding transom door that maximises the space onboard.
Water access will be via integrated swim decks and a “high-quality” folding ladder. Onboard, the boat will feature a large central ski locker, premium rubber flooring and a 150-litre underfloor fuel tank.
Packages will include the family-focussed Cherokee Sports – another name derived from Whittley’s heritage – the Nova Wake for towsports and featuring a custom wake tower, and the Sports Fisher for those who want to fish on one day and relax the next.
The bow will include a mounting point for an optional SavWinch electric winch, while the dashboard will be large enough to take up to a 9.0-inch multifunction touchscreen.
“For many years, the popular bowrider style of dayboat was dominated by the pressed aluminium boat brands,” Whittley said.
“Consumers can now have an affordable alternative to a pressed aluminium bow rider in fibreglass that carries the Whittley badge ensuring a quality boat and new-boat buying experience.”
Whittley has also teased that the Whittley XS 2000 will be the first of a number of new bowrider models coming to its showroom.
Whittley has had several bowrider models in its line-up in the past, including the 135hp 1800 Bowrider launched in 2007.
The “XS” in the new model’s name taps into Whittley’s tow sports history, and was once worn on the cruiser-based sterndrive XS20 and XS24.
It suggests that this boat will likely be an all-round wake and tow sports specialist ideal for waters such as around Newcastle and the Gold Coast.
Whittley has priced the XS 2000 from $91,990.00 driveaway including a 135hp Mercury FourStroke outboard engine, a dual-axle Mackay trailer and on-water costs. Other engine options include up to 150hp.
The boat is expected to weigh around 1600kg dry, meaning it will tow behind a mid-size family car.
Whittley’s boats also carry a five-year warranty.
