2022 Surtees 800 Game Fisher revealed
The new Surtees 800 Game Fisher sits at the top of the offshore fishing food chainNew Zealand plate alloy boat maker Surtees has introduced a new apex predator at the top of its hardcore recreational offshore fishing series, the 8.0-metre Surtees 800 Game Fisher.
Billed as the perfect weekend-away boat, the Surtees 800 Game Fisher features a fully enclosed wheelhouse with fold-out doors forming the rear bulkhead.
Inside is a compact galley with freshwater sink, a diesel cooker that also doubles as a heater, and a fridge built in under the helm seat.
The new Surtees 800 Game Fisher is built on top of Surtees’ Razortech deep-vee hull that includes a 500-litre flooding keel that helps the range-topper to add more stability at rest, and spray-deflecting reversed chines.
Below the tread plate deck, the Surtees is built on top of six welded stringers to help keep the entire boat rigid. Voids create flotation tanks that provide extra buoyancy should the boat swamp.
All-weather wheelhouse
The wheelhouse, fully painted like the rest of the boat, is framed in toughened tinted glass, while the dashboard includes enough space to mount a 16-inch sounder. The three-panel windscreen is fitted with individual wipers, while the side windows slide to allow air to flow across the cabin.
Forward access to the Lone Star anchor winch is via a large hatch.
Surtees says the fully carpeted wheelhouse also contains a table and sink, and the cabin comes equipped with squabs and sleeping infills for comfortable overnighting.
The cockpit of the Surtees includes a raw water washdown station, SeaDek-covered gunnels and a bait station with four in-built rod holders and a storage drawer.
The boat also taps Surtees’ offshore transom, featuring twin walk-through access and a boarding platform.
The boat’s electronics include a dual-battery system with isolation switches and a voltage-sensitive relay, in-cabin voltage readout, LED navigation, cabin and cockpit lighting, a Fusion audio system a Garmin 115i VHF radio with a 1.8-metre aerial, and a 3700gph bilge pump.
The helm has hydraulic steering, with the transom able to be optioned to mount twin outboard engines. The Surtees 800 Game Fisher is rated for between 300hp and 450hp.
