The 2022 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show kicks off next week with a range of new powerboats from brands we know, those that may sound familiar, and some we’ve not really heard from before.
The Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show features a separate area for trailer boats as well as an on-water space where some of the larger power boats that may be better off staying in the water or parked up in a dry stack can go on show.
The show is expected to have around 200 boats on the water, and another 200 on display onshore.
The marina at Sanctuary Cove has recently undergone a $190 million makeover that has expanded the number of undercover berths to shade the displays from the elements.
Here’s our list of some of the more prominent power boats you’ll expect to see at the 2022 Sanctuary Cove International Boast Show.
South American powerboat brand Schaefer Yachts is attempting to make a splash in Australia with a display of its four best-selling models.
Schaefer builds a range of products from 9.0-metre luxury dayboats right up to 23.0-metre offshore-capable cruisers.
Two of the models on display will be from Schafer’s entry-level line of boats including the Euro-styled Schaefer V33 walkaround that includes a cabin for overnighting, and the Schaefer 375HT, a pocket cruiser that has enough onboard accommodations for up to five people to remain on board once the sun goes down.
Schaefer will also have its newest motor yacht, the flybridge-equipped Shaefer 510, on show.
Scimitar is a name synonymous in Australia with cruising catamarans. It’s something of a pleasant surprise, then, to see the brand revived and featuring a pair of long-range cruising catamarans capable of making the liveaboard cruising dream possible.
Scimitar was last on our radar a decade ago, with 65 boats built over a brief five-year history. The name has been reborn as a re-imagined brand re-engineered boat that taps the skills of some of Australia’s leading naval architects and shipbuilders.
At the centre of the revival is the Scimitar 1010 Flybridge, the original and only model ever built.
The brand’s new owner, Aus Ships Group chief executive Tommy Ericson, chased down and bought one of the original catamarans as a test platform for the changes he wanted to introduce to the boat.
Scimitar will have two boats on display at Sanctuary Cove – a 1010 sedan “Moreton Bay cruiser” and a 1010 flybridge.
NSW-based boat builder Arvor will feature two Australian premieres at Sanctuary Cove as it continues to freshen its showroom.
The first new product will be the Arvor 675 Weekender, the new entry-level model in its lifestyle-focused model range.
Big on space despite its size, the Arvor 675 Weekender can be optioned up to be a competent overnight cruiser, making best use of its two-berth layout.
Making its debut alongside it will be the Avor 625 Sportsfish, the smallest of the fishing specialist models.
Featuring a helm that’s enclosed on three sides, it’s an all-weather fishing platform that aims to extend the amount of time you spend out on the water.
A small cuddy with two forward berths means a day trip can easily turn into an overnighter made even more comfortable via an options list that looks as though it was planned for a cruiser.
Australian Marine Centre has teased it will have an Invincible 33 catamaran at Sanctuary Cove this year.
Why are we excited? The Invincible 33 is a big US-made saltwater fishing boat with a luxury-focused fit-out that means while the fish aren't biting, you’re not uncomfortable.
Nice and wide with walkaround decks, it can pack up to 900hp of outboard engine on the transom – it’ll be interesting to see how this one is powered.
Long-established Queensland-based alloy boat maker Aquamaster has revealed it will have a flagship 6.0-metre centre console on display at Sanctuary Cove.
Aquamaster is a brand known for building affordable aluminium cuddy cabins, bowriders, centre consoles, runabouts, open boats, punts and car toppers.
The 6.0m centre console model is rated for up to 150hp and six people.
It will also have an Aquamaster 520 Open tiller-steer tinnie on display.
Australian Axopar distributor Eyachts has announced it will have the fully trailerable Axopar 22 on display.
The Axopar 22 is the complete opposite end of the scale to the Swedish boat maker’s newly revealed flagship, the Axopar 45.
The small, user-friendly Axopar 22 is billed as a true driver’s boat – it should nudge 40 knots in straight-line speed – with a twin-stepped hull that features on Axoipar’s larger models, and a vertical bow to help the 7.2-metre hull cut through the water.
