Malibu Australia has confirmed that the first of its locally built new-generation Wakesetter 21LX ski and watersport boats is ready to hit the water.
The Albury, NSW-based boat builder today teased an image of the new model that it hopes will become the nation’s biggest-selling boat in its class.
It has released a series of images showing Hull No.1 hitting the water at Lake Hume.
The Malibu Wakesetter 21LX features a new “hybrid” design that carries more beam forward, creating even more space for the bow lounge compared with more traditional hull shapes.
“Our Australian based manufacturing facility has been working tirelessly to ensure that the first of the new Malibu Wakesetter 21LX boats will be in consumers hands come January 2022,” Malibu Australia marketing and events manager Thorry Heaney said.
“The initial on-water performance testing looks extremely promising. The factory team are very confident that it will be Australia’s number-one-selling tow sports boat for the next 24-month period.
“The new Malibu Wakesetter 21LX ticks all the boxes for the Australian market, performance, premium aesthetic/ergonomic design, and approachable and towable platform size.”
Unlike boats built for the North American market, which will feature the choice of a Diamond hull optimised for all-around watersports or the more hardcore Wake Plus wakeboarding version, all Australian-built boats will feature the more versatile Diamond hull.
The boat will feature a ski pole integrated into the aft section of the boat that telescopes up out of a hidden recess in the transom.

Australian-built boats will also feature the Malibu G5 tower as standard.
The 2022 Malibu Wakesetter 21LX is priced from $165,000 drive-away including Surf Gate with Surf Band, Power Wedge II and Malibu Launch System bow ballast.
