Lagoon, the sailing catamaran arm of French sail and powerboat specialist Beneteau, has given a tantalising first look at its all-new Lagoon 51.
Due to have its official reveal at the 2022 International Multihull Show in France in late April, the new flybridge helm-equipped Lagoon 51 maximises the onboard space with an extended transom that is wider than the catamaran’s beam, a huge forward cockpit, and panoramic views from the saloon deck.
The Lagoon 51 will also take a big step forward for the brand in terms of electronics as the first model to feature Beneteau’s Seanapps digital management and maintenance system.
It also gives a nod to the environment, with hemp fibres bound in partially bio-sourced resin used instead of fibreglass “wherever possible”.
The Lagoon 51 can come in a four-cabin, three-head layout with the starboard hull used as a dedicated owner’s cabin replete with a walk-in dressing room; a four-cabin, four-head layout; or a six-cabin, four-head layout for commercial applications.
The Lagoon 51’s flybridge features two separate access points from below, including one linked directly to the helm station.
According to Lagoon, the flybridge, which includes two forward sun pads and an aft lounge, is a “convivial place” that is “appreciated at anchor but also during navigation.
“Thanks to full headroom in the flybridge, it can be safely used underway,” it said.
“Maneuvers are at hand from steering station, while the guests can walk around without disturbing the helmsman.
“The flybridge of the Lagoon 51 is innovative by the modularity of its spaces, its clever ergonomics and the coziness of this great living area.”
On the main deck, only two “small” steps separate the transom from the wide and comfortable aft cockpit.
Accessed via the side decks, the Lagoon 51’s forward cockpit includes a lounge space with uninterrupted views out over the water, as well as “nice amenities” including “plenty of cupholders, a nice coffee table”, and a large awning that shades the entire space.
The large, modular saloon space is wide and open, with the mast stepped at the forward end to provide an interrupted space.
“The great luminosity, coming from the 360-degree vertical windows, and the new wood finishes – Alpi sand oak – simply reinforce this feeling of space,” Lagoon said.
One of the options available to Lagoon 51 owners is a series of solar panels built into a hardtop that extends over the flybridge space, as well as surfaces around the flybridge.
This can provide the Lagoon 51 with up to 3400 watts of power, which is enough to provide all the onboard electricity needed for everything but the airconditioning system.
“The solar panels fit perfectly into the lines of the catamaran and do not interfere with life on board,” it said.
“The flybridge and the sun pads on the roof are still accessible and usable even with the panels.
The 2022 International Multihull Show held at La Grande-Motte in southern France runs from April 20-24.
