The 2021 Yamaha WaveRunner FX HO and FX SVHO – as well as the entry-level EX series – have had colour and trim changes for the new model year.
The FX and EX series are two of the newest models in the Yamaha WaveRunner line-up and are the book-ends of the range.
The current-generation EX series was introduced – with a new deck and hull – in 2017, while the FX came out with its complete redesign in 2019.

Given that both models are still in the infancy of their lifecycle – which typically runs for five or six years – the changes are restricted to colour and trim for 2021.
The entry-level EXR performance model powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder (81kW) engine gains a large dose of red and yellow trim (replacing yellow and blue). The combination might look a bit like a certain fast-food restaurant’s colour scheme, but this is one seriously playful machine and the cheapest ticket into a budget performance model from Yamaha.
The flagship Yamaha WaveRunner FX HO models – both powered by a naturally aspirated 1.8-litre four-cylinder – are available in a new red and white paint scheme (replacing green and white) or a blue and white combination (replacing blue and silver in the Cruiser grade).
The high-performance Yamaha WaveRunner FX SVHO models – both powered by a supercharged 1.8-litre four-cylinder – are available in new black and lime-yellow or a red-and-black combination. The black-on-black FX SVHO Cruiser carries over unchanged due to its popularity.
The FX series has not undergone any technical changes since launch in 2019, although minor updates in 2020 included a revised fuel sender unit (for more accurate fuel gauge readings), and changes to the impeller duct housing from a two-piece to a single-piece design with a removable impeller sleeve for easier maintenance.
The good news is the 2021 FX and EX model ranges are due in Australian showrooms in November, at the same time as the new Yamaha WaveRunner SuperJet stand-up, and ahead of the new Yamaha WaveRunner GP1800R and VX series models due in December through to late January.
Prices will be announced closer to each model's showroom arrival date.
