The carbon fibre-heavy Sunreef 80 Carbon Edition has had its first official outing, revealed in images released by the Polish luxury cruising catamaran brand.
Fantastic Too, featuring a carbon hull, deck, superstructure, mast and boom for an enhanced performance under sail, was launched late last year, slipping under the sailing world’s radar.
However, the new cat – built for year-round navigation with a family-friendly layout and accommodation for 11 people spread across five cabins – has now had its official outing, showing next to nothing of its lightweight pedigree on the surface.

However, while it is optimised for fast sailing, Sunreef has built the Fantastic Too so it lacks nothing of the comforts for which the multihull boat-maker is known.

“The catamaran’s main deck houses a saloon comprising generous lounging spaces, a bar and a fully equipped galley,” Sunreef said.
“Alfresco relaxation areas include a vast bow terrace with a sunken lounge and a 54-square-metre flybridge with ample dining space, sunpads and a bar.
“Fantastic Too’s full-beam cockpit is fitted with a hydraulic aft platform accommodating for the tender or serving as a beach club,” it said.
Sunreef already builds a lighter version of the 80, but this is the first time the boat has been built almost exclusively from carbon fibre.
The Sunreef Carbon Line’s hull eschews carbon fibre for a composite foam core sandwich, using an inner and outer fibreglass skin separated by a layer of PVC foam.

Similar to the Sunreef 80 Carbon Edition, its mast and boom are made from carbon fibre.
Sunreef has not said how fast the full carbon composite catamaran will sail, but the Sunreef Carbon Line, made for “fast sailing adventures”, is capable of skipping along at 15 knots, with a maximum speed under sail of around 20 knots.
Sunreef Yachts' sailing catamarans are available in Australia via Melbourne-based Vicsail.
