New Zealand amphibious boat maker Sealegs has revealed an extended console version of its 7.5-metre RIB that offers even more protection from the elements via a larger windscreen.
The Sealegs 7.5 Semi-Cab features an electric windscreen that can raise or lower at the push of a button. It was developed in response to customer demand looking for a version of the amphibious craft “that can keep the family warm and dry in adverse conditions but can also enjoy finer weather to its fullest”.
“In difficult conditions, the windscreen extends upwards 350mm to provide maximum protection for the operator and passengers and in good conditions, the windscreen can be lowered,” Sealegs said.

“The electric windscreen was designed to look pillarless to maintain visibility whilst in use and the oceans panoramic views when in an anchored position.”
The new Sealegs model is based on the existing 7.5-metre centre console, but uses a full-width wrap-around windscreen to increase what the company calls the “personal envelope of comfort” for passengers.
Meanwhile, the Sealegs 7.5 Semi-Cab “retains the sleek styling and superior on-water performance that all Sealegs 7.5m RIBs enjoy,” the company said.

New Zealanders will get their first look at the new boat at October’s Auckland Boat Show, with deliveries to markets including Australia expected in 2021.
"Around the world, Sealegs owners seek to maximise their time on the water without compromise,’ Sealegs chief executive David McKee Wright said.
“The full-width windscreen provides panoramic views in either its extended or retracted positions, and allows enjoyable boating regardless of weather.”
No pricing was announced.
