Sea Ray has kicked off celebrations for the 45th anniversary of its Seadancer series with an all-new model – the Sea Ray Sundancer 370 Outboard.
The new range-topping sports cruiser eschews the Seadancer’s traditional inboard engine layout for a rig of three 300hp Mercury Verado outboard engines arranged along the transom.
However, the new Sea Ray Sundancer 370 Outboard also introduces buyers to a design revamp that will carry through to all the brand’s future models.
Sea Ray president Steve Langlais said the Sundancer range was launched in 1976 with the Sundancer 240.
“A modern take on an American classic, the Sundancer 370 Outboard is spearheading the next generation of this iconic series that’s been an integral part of the Sea Ray portfolio for 45 years,” Langlais said.
“The Sundancer 370 Outboard advances the Sundancer line with enhancements that are both pure and bold.
“Simple, sophisticated lines create a form and proportion that’s not over designed or overstated,” he said.
“Surfaces flow from crisp lines to smooth transitions seamlessly creating an integrated feel while technology and interaction provide a sense of the future.”
The new Sea Ray Sundancer 370 Outboard still keeps its svelte coupe styling with a forward bow lounge. However, the space under the hardtop is now surrounded in deep glass to create a light, airy space, enhanced with an optional sliding sunroof.
The new boat’s sheerline falls dramatically as it moves aft past the enclosed saloon space, giving the Sea Ray Sundancer 370 Outboard an aggressive, swooping profile.
The enclosed coupe’s windscreen includes a swinging panel portside that gives easy access to the L-shaped bow lounge that has enough seating for up to five people. The seats convert into a sun lounge.
At the other end of the boat, a U-shaped cockpit with seating for five creates an ideal space to host a dinner party, with a wet bar, grill, and an optional refrigerator and teak tables.
The transom seat moves through three positions to create either a hard-bached transom while underway, to an aft-facing bench or even a sun lounge.
Below decks, the Sea Ray Sundancer 370 Outboard was designed to feel more like a home than a cabin, with large hull-side windows and a skylight creating a light, airy space..
“We sought to create an interior cabin space in the Sundancer 370 Outboard that’s a bright, warm and modern home away from home,” Sea Ray industrial designer Paul Olvera said.
“We wanted people aboard to feel welcome to sit and relax with a sense of sophistication as they’re surrounded by rich textures inspired by nature that aren’t loud or overbearing.
“Calmness and confidence were key; nothing is cold or too bright and loud, and neither is anything too dark or moody. The tones are especially catered to their respective areas so that everything is just right.”
A lounge space below decks includes a head with separate shower space, a forward V-berth that transforms into an L-shaped lounge space with TV, a galley equipped with optional microwave, fridge and solid-surface benchtops.
The amidships lounge space also converts into a sleeping space.
Making the boat feel small when it needs to is Mercury’s Joystick Piloting for Outboards that allows even inexperienced skippers to confidently make small, precise manoeuvres while docking.
The boat can even come with the smallest Seakeeper 3 gyroscope to help smooth out rough waters while at rest or on the move.
Sea Ray boats are sold in Australia via Sydney's Chapman Marine Group and Coomera-based Queensland Marine Centre.
