The Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show has shaken off the COVID-19 pandemic, announcing the 32nd edition of Australia’s largest boating extravaganza will go ahead from Thursday, May 20 to Sunday, May 23, 2021.
The 2020 show was officially cancelled earlier this year after a number of state and territory governments – including Queensland, which hosts the event – introduced travel bans to slow or halt the spread of coronavirus.

Instead, the show’s organisers spun out a smaller event later in the year – the 2020 Sanctuary Cove Boating Festival – that allowed boating enthusiasts to get a taste of the show while adhering to strict social distancing guidelines.
While the boating festival was restricted to 20,000 people to accommodate the strict social distancing guidelines, organisers hope the 2021 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show will attract more than the record 47,000 people who visited the Gold Coast event in 2019.

Domenic O’Brien, the sales and partnership manager for SCIBS’s organisers Mulpha Australia, said the 300-plus exhibitors who attended in 2019 would be offered the same or similar exhibition space as they had used last year.
“At the upper echelon of luxury lifestyle, SCIBS will showcase prestigious superyachts, power boats, catamarans and sailing boats, as well as RIBs, day boats, fishing boats, sports, ski and tow boats for recreational boaties,” O’Brien said.
“We’re also thrilled that the popular sports, leisure and fishing precinct is back – a 20,000-square-metre space dedicated to trailerable boats – alongside the latest gear and gadgets on display in The Pavilions.”

Recent upgrades to the Sanctuary Cove site mean the site is now able to accommodate yachts up to 50 metres in length, as well as expand to the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort.
The site has also increased the amount of exhibition space where it can host displays of trailer boats.
Other features of the show aimed at helping with networking include marine conferences, a business lounge supported by the Queensland Government, and a five-star VIP Lounge overlooking the new marina.
The show will again include free parking at Warner Bros. Movie World with a shuttle service to the show’s gates, and limited on-site parking.

Tickets will go on sale in February, with free entry for children under the age of 16.
Mulpha Australia said it would continue to work with Queensland Health to ensure SCIBS complies with COVIDSafe practices.
