Riviera, Australia’s largest luxury motor yacht maker, has dropped another surprise as it celebrates its 40th anniversary – the blueprint for an all-new Riviera 50 Sports Motor Yacht.
Revealed as plans to mark its world premiere rather than a finished boat, the Gold Coast-based luxury motor yacht maker said the new Riviera 50 Sports Motor Yacht “redefines the form, function and feel of the quintessential blue-water yacht”.
The Riviera 50 Sports Motor Yacht, conceived in-house with the help of Gold Coast-based 4D Design, forms “a remarkably spacious new yacht and brimming with unique features” including five living zones.
“This sophisticated new design draws on the heritage of Riviera’s larger and very successful 64, 68 and 72 Sports Motor Yacht models,” Riviera said.
The 15.4-metre Riviera 50 Sports Motor Yacht keeps some of the elements that define the Sports Motor Yacht line, such as the foredeck that is just as good an entertaining space with sunlounge as it is a tender storage, a sports cockpit, an all-weather mezzanine seating area suited to alfresco dining and entertainment, a three-sided glass-enclosed flybridge, and a full-beam master stateroom that acts as the centrepiece for a three-stateroom, twin-bathroom accommodation plan.
The design integrates the bowsprit into the flared hull, giving the Riviera 50 Sports Motor Yacht a contemporary look.
“Our sports motor yacht design is in a league of its own, as they bring many different yacht designs together for the first time in one yacht,” Riviera owner Rodney Longhurst said.
“A Riviera SMY has the attributes of a passage maker, pilothouse, motor yacht, and convertible sports fish, all in one.
“The new 50 SMY has considerable internal volume for its size, with multiple living areas and a tremendous amount of practicality and versatility.
“She’ll comfortably handle long coastal passages while being equally adept at serving as a luxurious family, fishing and entertainment yacht with highly efficient planing performance – perfect for day boating and weekending."
Part of that high-speed efficiency comes from the Riviera 50 Sports Motor Yacht’s drivelines, with the choice of either Volvo Penta IPS or MAN V-drive propulsion.
The drivelines are paired with either 725hp twin diesel Volvo Penta IPS 950s or 800hp twin diesel MAN i6-800s, with both choices delivering what Riviera says is smooth, strong-mid-range thrust and top speeds of more than 30 knots.
The Riviera 50 Sports Motor Yacht features an optional hydraulic swim platform leading up to a pair of transom doors opening to either side of the cockpit.
The cockpit is large, measuring 6.5 square metres and including a barbecue/wet bar and fridge/freezer compartment, and storage. An aft helm is available as an option.
"Wide and deep walk-around side-decks safely connect the foredeck, which in turn offers both an entertainment and lounging zone and can transform to carry a tender," Riviera said. "A walkway beneath the windscreen allows easy washing or attaching covers."
An enclosed alfresco deck – open to the cockpit but enclosed to each side – is lined with day lounges to either side, with the starboard lounge converting to a sunbed. The floor of this area lifts up to provide access to the engine room below.
The saloon is accessed via a stainless steel-framed tinted glass sliding door from the alfresco deck. The aft galley is to port and the internal staircase to the flybridge is to starboard.
Further forward, the saloon features opposing lounges with seating for up to eight people.
The main helm station comes equipped with a pair of pedestal-mounted leather seats and connects with a choice of efficient power and drive options; either twin 725hp diesel Volvo Penta IPS 950 pod drives or twin 800hp diesel MAN i6-800s with shaft drives.
The MAN's performance is enough to give the Riviera 50 Sports Motor Yacht a 30 knot-plus top speed with a full load on board, and a 336nm range at 22 knots with 10 per cent reserve fuel.
