2021 Maritimo M55 flybridge motor yacht concept revealed

A new member will join the Maritimo M-Series flybridge cruiser range next year – the Maritimo M55

Australian luxury motor yacht maker Maritimo has teased an all-new Maritimo M55 flybridge motor yacht that will hit the water early in 2021.

The long-range three-cabin cruiser – it will carry 4550 litres of fuel to allow it to run as wide as its skipper's imagination – features a new “adventure deck”, a deep lower cockpit that provides easy access to the water.

The adventure deck can come equipped with a fully lined 3.0-metre-deep tender garage with 250kg davit for owners who don’t want to stow a tender on the platform or forward deck.

Another option for the lower cockpit is a 1.4-metre extended platform to create what Maritimo calls a “mammoth deck space with endless practical applications”.

"The [Maritimo] M55 flybridge motor yacht showcases the future of flybridge motor yacht design,” Maritimo chief designer Tom Barry-Cotter said.

"The new design has not only integrated all of the iconic M-Series features into the vessel, it has advanced them into an entirely new standard.

“Every aspect of the design has been obsessively reflected upon and refined during the design and new product development process, to achieve the functional solutions, comfort, and living spaces we set out to achieve."

Pricing is expected to start from around $1.99 million.

One step up from the lower cockpit, is the upper cockpit alfresco deck space, with easy access to deep walkthrough side decks.

An upper cockpit accessed from the adventure deck is fully sheltered by the extended flybridge. Optional roll-down isinglass clears, which hose away in the moulded headliner recesses when stowed, close in the open sides of the deck space.

The cockpit is dominated by a large lounge backing onto a barbecue area that includes a wet bar.

The upper cockpit connects with the saloon via a glass bulkhead that backs onto an amidships galley framed on one side with the staircase to the flybridge.

Forward of that is a large dinette to port and huge U-shaped lounge space to starboard, with the companionway to the lower accommodations splitting the two.

"Injecting light and air to the saloon and flybridge is the option of Maritimo’s unique two-stage vista sliding windows which transform the areas into an indoor/outdoor escape," Maritimo said.

The flybridge’s wing mouldings extend over the side desks to provide shelter as well as maximise the amount of space available on the upper level to make it wat Maritimo says is the “most spacious flybridge for a motor yacht in the 50-60ft size category”.

Flybridge sky lounge

“The fully enclosed climate-controlled flybridge sky lounge space incorporates a pair of distinct flybridge lounging areas, for cruising and relaxing, which can easily convert to additional sleeping berths if required,” Maritimo said.

“Beyond the aft bi-fold doors is an immense flybridge deck space that can be optioned with further alfresco lounging with full hardtop coverage, opening skylights as well as the option for concealed roll-down clears.”

The Maritimo M55 will join the M51, M54, M59, M64 and M70 in the growing M-Series line-up.

The Maritimo M55 features an owners' stateroom running the full beam of the hull and providing enough room for a king-size bed. Other accommodations include an offset queen-size forward stateroom and a twin-single guest stateroom.

The lower companionway has enough space for a separate washer and dryer if needed.

“Below decks we have gone to incredible efforts in creating free-flowing spaces that best utilize the hull’s volume, maximises height, and minimises the number of steps in the floors and ceilings,” Barry-Cotter said.

"The new [Maritimo] M55 brings together the combined skills and expertise of world-class Maritimo craftsmen and epitomises our corporate culture and unyielding commitment to reaching perfection with every new motor yacht we create."

Volvo Penta power

Maritimo will fit out the Maritimo M55 with Volvo Penta power by default, with twin 670hp D11 shaft-drives fitted standard.

Options will extend to the 725hp version of the D11s, and  800hp Scania DI13s.

Maritimo has stayed with shaft drive for reliability as well as minimising power loss through gearboxes.

The Maritimo X55 will use a sharp 53-degree vee up front with a variable deadrise falling to 5.75 degrees at the stern to help with planing and to provide stability at rest. The almost flat aft section will allow Maritimo to use just a 9.1-degree shaft angle.

The Maritimo M55 will use three fuel tanks with the main tank mounted centrally and low down on the keel. Two forward tanks will gavity-feed into the main one using one-way valves.

The extra fuel capacity – the Maritimo M55 can carry 700 litres more fuel than the Maritimo M54 – means the new boat will easily range further than the M54's estimated 500nm-plus cruising range.
