Dutch boatbuilder Focus Motor Yachts has launched a special high-end version of its popular Focus Power 36 sports cruiser that it says delivers both glamour and sizzling speed.
Christened the Focus Power 36 GTX, this 11.0-metre sports cruiser grabs attention with a top speed of 50 knots from the top-spec twin 370hp MerCruiser turbodiesels running through Bravo sterndrives.
However, what will really excite the buyers who can afford the Focus Power 36 GTX is the cost-regardless finish using the absolute best available materials.
From the dramatic jet-black hull to the aerodynamic cab, the Focus Power 36 GTX looks like the sort of expensive sports cruiser that takes a front-row berth at the yacht club marina. The image of exclusiveness is further enhanced with laid teak decks and custom made stainless steel deck fittings.
Add the expensive white leather helm seats and the jumbo electronic helm display and you know this is no ordinary 36-foot European cruiser.
Ironically the more luxurious version of the Focus Power 36 that launched late last year was not on Focus Power's horizon until a wealthy European boat owner knocked on the door with a special request.
He asked for a craft small enough to comply with the restrictions of his local lake, yet be super fast without compromising useable deck space or lacking anything in terms of luxury appointments and premium quality.
He liked the size and deck space of the Focus Power 36, so it became the template for his new custom model. The boat uses a more refined build process compared with its donor boat, which sheds another 700kg compared with the hull on which it is based.
The James Bond-ish appearance hints that his inspiration came from the best of the British sports yacht brands – the dark hull, a sweeping Jaguar car-like deckhouse, teak trim and leather seats are just so British.
It also helps that the designer of all four Focus Power models stretching between 33 and 50 feet is famed British sports cruiser and racing yacht designer Tony Castro.

Cockpit seating is lined with Italian leather and all the equipment, from the cooker, TV and the audio system to the shower, fridge and bathroom fittings are from the world’s most exclusive luxury brands.
Below decks are two cabins featuring full standing-height headroom and double beds, a saloon dining area, galley and bathroom.
The custom-built dashboard is also an entirely new feature to this model. It has been engineered to accommodate a pair of 13-inch multifunction displays and the inclusion of Quick Nautical Network smart boat technology so the skipper can control all onboard systems, including the dimmable lights, at the touch of a button.
The Focus Power 36 GTX features twin padded helm seats within the enclosed wheelhouse, with the central helm position providing brilliant for all-round visibility and control at all speeds. Electric sunroofs and aircon ensure comfort is maintained in all weather.
The rear deck incorporates an L-shaped lounge, dining table, bar and fridge, and a walk-through to the large transom swim deck featuring an aft "beach" lounge.
The Focus Power 36 GTX's walkaround decks provide safe, easy movement forward to the sun pad, and at night the mood is cocktail party-time with concealed LED lighting lining the side decks.
The Focus Power 36 GTX is a nice size for either inshore quiet water cruising or trips offshore. The extra-deep V hull coupled with a wide, powerful hull should ensure the sports cruiser is equally at home in our Australian coastal waters.
Focus Power was so happy with the way the GTX model turned out it is now offering the model as a limited edition alongside the standard Focus Power 36.
As a limited edition, owners will have wide latitude in what they can order in terms of colours, finishes and electronics.
Focus Motor Yachts' range, which also includes the Focus Forza 37 express dayboat, is distributed in Australia via Queensland-based McIntyre Equipment.
