2021 Fleming 85 Open Flybridge revealed

Fleming Yachts launches the Fleming 85 Open Flybridge, a long-range cruiser with classic lines for modern times

Fleming Yachts has dropped details on what it says is its most efficient and beautiful semi-displacement hull to ever grace the water – the Fleming 85 Open Flybridge.

The boat is the design of renowned Queensland-based Norman R Wrights and Sons – the same 110-year-old shipwright responsible for the lath-based staircase gracing central Sydney’s Hermes store – featuring classic lines and features right down to a clinker-look hull.

Fleming said the Fleming 85 Open Flybridge was “a brand new design from the keel up”, with a brief to “design and build literally the finest possible ocean going pilothouse motor yacht, in every respect”.

“With true ocean-crossing range the Fleming 85 will take you anywhere you want to be in the world, in total comfort, grace and peace of mind,” it said.

The Fleming 85 Open Flybridge will be available in two versions; open air in the traditional Fleming flybridge style, and enclosed with the raised pilothouse moved to the upper deck and the space below converted to an expanded dining and entertaining space.

Externally, the Fleming 85 Open Flybridge features the classic lines that define the brand, but with a “simpler, cleaner look” with flush or hidden hardware.

Inside, interior fitouts can range from traditional to contemporary depending on the owner’s tastes, with insulated double glazing used throughout as standard.

Other standard equipment on the Fleming 85 Open Flybridge include solar panels; lightweight lithium-ion batteries; a 1000kg Steelhead Marine deck crane; twin Ultra anchors with high-tensile stainless steel chain; twin Maxwell windlasses; black water treatment system; a watermaker; and warping winches.

The foredeck of the Fleming 85 Open Flybridge features large storage lockers “for all shapes and sizes of gear, and a fold-away seating alcove.

Aft, the deck features a raised and sheltered dining area with seating for 10 people, gullwing door access to the engine room, and access to the crew’s quarters.

Down in the cockpit, there’s storage space for dive equipment or fishing gear, and warping winches to assist with docking.

A large swim platform features the option of lowering hydraulically and can be used to stow a tender or jet ski.

The Fleming 85 Open Flybridge also features multiple side boarding gates, complete with steps, to make accessing floating or fixed docks easier.

Up on the flybridge, Fleming says the Fleming 85 Open Flybridge has “everything you need for cruising, entertaining and relaxing”. The crane can help stow up to a 5.2-metre tender forward.

The Fleming 85 Open Flybridge will be available in either a three-or four-cabin layout, with a choice of twin or single cabin for the galley-equipped crew quarters.
