US premium fibreglass boat brand Boston Whaler has unveiled a boat aimed at staycationers that it has dubbed the Swiss army knife of boating – the Boston Whaler 240 Vantage.
Rather than master one activity, Boston Whaler says the boat “is well suited to a wide range of activities, including fishing, cruising, beaching, watersports, entertaining and more”.

“The 240 Vantage is incredibly versatile and customisable,” Boston Whaler president Nick Stickler said.
“We call it the Swiss army knife of boating. Just like our new 280 Vantage, the 240 is ideal for boaters who want to take advantage of everything the water has to offer," he said.
“We’re excited to offer this great new option for families seeking active 'staycations'.
“The 240 Vantage provides a whole new view on what’s possible, putting family fun, watersports, sightseeing, fishing and priceless memories within reach.”
The Boston Whaler 240 Vantage uses “conversation-friendly” seating including a bow lounge and an aft seat that folds away to provide more fishing space.
“Across from the captain, you’ll find Whaler’s innovative portside lounge seating, which converts to multiple positions: facing forward, facing aft, or laid flat to serve as the perfect napping spot,” the boat-maker said.
Other family-friendly features include a deep small child-friendly freeboard, windlass for the anchor, and a bow-mounted boarding ladder to make beach access much easier.
To increase its versatility as a day boat, the Boston Whaler 240 Vantage’s cockpit has a “prep centre” that can be used to prepare meals for the family, and double as a bait preparation station when they’re not onboard.
The boat also has a head and sink fitted as standard, “making long outings a little easier on everyone”.
On the fishing front, the Boston Whaler 240 Vantage doesn’t cut corners. The boat includes a large insulated under-floor kill tank, and an optional livewell built into the transom.
Stainless steel rod holders are “strategically” placed throughout the boat, and the console includes rod storage space.
In the US, the helm will be home to Raymarine electronics, and out the back, V8 Mercury Verado power.
Unusually, the boat’s console uses a cuddy-style wrap-around windscreen, and an integrated hard or soft-top to provide shade, with wrap-around clears enclosing the space in between.
US owners can also option up the Boston Whaler 240 Vantage with a tower with wakeboard racks for anyone keen to tap into the boat’s tow sport potential.
"Unsinkable" Boston Whaler boats – the hulls are foam-filled to provide buoyancy should the worst happen – are sold in Australia via several distributors including Queensland Marine Centre.
