The “big small boat” of the Whittley Boats cruiser series, the Whittley CR 2380, has added the option of an outboard engine for the first time.
The introduction of the Whittley CR2380 OB model is largely in response to increasing demand for an outboard-engined version of the traditionally sterndrive cruiser.
The outboard engine option provides the ability to lift the motor out of the water, improving the boat’s transom access shallow water and making it ideal for beaching.
The ability to easily access the outboard engine when compared with an inboard one also helps owners lower maintenance costs.
Whittley said moving the engine outboard had opened up more room in the cockpit “without compromising large areas of the swim platform space”.
“Since we opened our new showroom at The Boat Works on the Gold Coast, consumers have been regularly asking for Yamaha outboard-powered packages for our larger Cruiser models,” Whittley Gold Coast sales manager Laurie Jackson said.
“The research and development team at the Whittley factory have worked closely with feedback from customers, to design outboard versions of our popular CR models.
“The key was to be able to trim the engine up, as well as minimise the room lost on the large rear swim platform.
“Consumers can also enjoy a weight reduction in this new OB model over the traditional sterndrive model, which makes the package lighter to tow behind a suitable vehicle,” Jackson said.
“This boat was built for the Queensland market based on their feedback and input.”
The boat is sold as a package including a dual-axle electric-braked Dunbier trailer priced from $114,990 when fitted with a 150hp Yamaha F150 FourStroke outboard engine.
The Whittley CR2380 OB was to have had its Australian debut at this month’s 2020 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show alongside another new outboard-engined model, the Whittley CR 2600 OB.
Standard equipment on the Whittley CR 2380 OB includes a curved, lockable cabin door opening to a large V-berth cabin, plenty of onboard storage, an aft L-shaped dinette with an infill that converts it to a double bed, and a curved windscreen with a wiper.
For anyone looking to extend their trips into overnight cruising, the Whittley CR 2380 OB can come with a full set of clears to completely enclose the cockpit, and a galley with pressurised cold or optional hot water, portable stove and fridge.
A moulded transom step-through from the cockpit provides access to the boarding platform, which also acts as an alfresco balcony and fishing platform.
The boat is still available with an inboard engine. Options for this model include either a 200hp or 280hp Volvo Penta V6 inboard engine with a stern drive leg.
The new Whittley CR 2600 OB is now on display at the Whittley Gold Coast Sales showroom. Customers in other states and territories can view the package online via www.whittleyboats.com.au.
Whittley Boats said it would still offer 2020 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show specials on the new model despite organisers planning to move this year’s event to later in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
