Whitehaven 8000, Whitehaven’s largest build to date, takes shape

When it is completed, the Whitehaven 8000 will be the Brisbane-based motor yacht maker's largest project to date

Queensland-based Whitehaven Motor Yachts has shown progress on its largest boat to date, the custom-designed and built Whitehaven 8000.

The new Whitehaven 8000 is the third for one of Whitehaven’s longstanding customers. The new motor yacht is based on the Whitehaven 7500 Finito, but has extended its waterline to include a larger tender garage – its new owners expect to spend a lot of time in remote areas in the Northern Territory and need a larger tender.

Other changes include larger navigation screens, as well as upgraded night vision cameras.

The new Whitehaven 8000, which is currently being built in Taiwan, will arrive in Brisbane when it is delivered, with its new owners expecting to spend some time on it around the Gold Coast before possibly heading down to Sydney.

Its home port will eventually be in Darwin. From there, the new Whitehaven 8000 will venture as far as he Kimberley, Tiwi Islands, New Year Island, Port Essington and the Wessel Islands.

Second harbour Classic 40

The image of the Whitehaven 8000 come at the same time as the yacht maker announced that it had launched its second Harbour Classic 40, and was now offering virtual tours of the dayboat.

“We are thoroughly pleased with the finished product as significant time, investment and thought went into the production of this day boat,” Whitehaven managing director Bruce Scott said.

“She is completely finished, commissioned and ready to go.

Given the extraordinary situation we now all find ourselves in, we are completing comprehensive photography of the second Harbour Classic 40 so interested buyers can virtually experience our latest launch at their convenience,” he said.

The second boat differs from the first in that it uses twin Volvo Penta D4 engines powering IPS pod drives instead of a single Volvo Penta 435 D6, which allows Whitehaven to introduce joystick controls to the Harbour Classic 40.

Other tweaks to the design include a shorter hardtop that extends using a retractable awning and a fully enclosed forepeak cabin.
