Veitch 23 teased online
A boat looking suspiciously like the new Veitch 23 trailerable sportsfisher hits social mediaTrailerable sports fishing boat specialist Veitch Boats has teased what looks like the new Veitch 23, a smaller version of the Veitch 27.
The Bairnsdale-based boat-maker today posted an image of a boat on its Facebook page with a cockpit that's much shorter than that of the 27.
Despite its size, the Veitch 27 is made using an infused resin composite process that results in a lightweight but strong hull capable of handling plenty of power.
How much? The latest boat to leave the factory headed for a South Australian customer last week was equipped with twin 300hp Suzuki DF300A 4.0-litre V6 outboard engines.
The Veitch 23 teased in the single image posted on social media is fitted with twin Yamaha powerplants.
The side profile of the boat hints that it keeps Veitch's signature 25.5-degree deep vee hull forward, with a flared Carolona-style bow carrying forward of the pilothouse. It's too difficult to tell if the 23 also gets the reversed chines of the bigger model.
Similar to its bigger Veitch 27 sibling, the Veitch 23 has a big, full-beam pilothouse extending well back behind the helm.
The ploithouse, moulded in a single piece for the 27, features a steeply raked windscreen that tucks in behind the leading edge of the hardtop.
The boat in the picture also features a radome – despite its smaller size, everything points to an offshore-capable boat – with a rocket launcher built into the trailing edge of the hardtop, and outriggers.
The Veitch 27 is designed to weigh in at less than 3.5 tonnes on the trailer, meaning it can be pulled behind a regular trade ute. The Veitch 23, meanwhile, should come in at less than 3.0 tonnes.
The Veitch 27 can be built in survey for commercial applications. There are also plans to build a diesel inboard-powered model.
