One of North America’s largest boat shows, the 2020 Palm Beach International Boat Show, will go ahead this week despite the COVID-19 pandemic – however it will all be bits and bytes rather than sand and sunshine.
The virtual boat show will open its doors on Friday morning Australian time promising what it says will be the biggest display of superyachts ever in Palm Beach.
Boats slated for a showing include the 242-foot (74-metre) Amels-built Plvs Vltra, Tankoa’s 235-foot (72-metre) Solo, and the 238-foot (73-metre) Turquoise Yachts Quantum of Solace – you can charter this seven-bedroom yacht and its 18 crew for around $1 million a week – among other vessels that will be hosed in an online spectacular.

The 2020 Palm Beach International Boat Show was officially cancelled earlier this year as the US struggled to contain one of the world’s worst coronavirus outbreaks.
However, show organisers flagged the event would still go ahead, although only on the internet, and will still feature new-boat debuts.
Organisers have said the virtual boat show would still feature “nearly 500 premier exhibitors” when the dotcom doors open on Friday, with boats ranging from jet skis right up to the superyachts.

The show officially opens at 10am on Thursday on Palm Beach time, which equates to midnight on Friday Australian time.
Visitors to the virtual show will need to register their interest before gaining access to the event’s website.
The 2021 Palm Beach International Boat Show is already locked in for a return to the real world from March 25-28 next year.
