US fibreglass specialist Bayliner has released the Bayliner Element M15, a new boat it describes as a “compact, lightweight and low-maintenance” deck boat made for families keen to step out on the water for the first time.
The new side console model, launched into the US market, measures just 4.6 metres long by 1.8 metres wide, with what looks like a deep freeboard.

Looking a bit like a spade-nosed spa tub with an outboard engine hanging off the back, the boat is affordable (pricing starts from $US14,000, or $A19,000 including a single-axle trailer), optimised for first-timers, and aimed at either couples or small families of up to five people.
Up front, the boat is a bowrider with plenty of bulwark padding, J-shaped seating, cupholders and lots of underseat storage space.
Aft, the Bayliner Element M15 features a side console protected by a low windscreen and with good small-item storage space and easy-to-use controls, and a fixed bench seat running along the transom.
A 45-litre tote tank is tucked in under the bench seat.
Bayliner said the 17-degree deadrise hull of the Bayliner Element M15, which taps the boat-maker’s M-Hull technology, offers “better stability and predictable handling”.
Behind the transom is an extended platform running down to the engine pod, where the standard 40hp Mercury FourStroke can upgrade to a 50hp unit. An extending swim ladder drops down from the starboard side.
The Bayliner Element M15 is not yet part of Bayliner’s international model range.
