Azimut has side-stepped the cancelled Cannes Yachting Festival to launch its all-new Magellano 25 Metri, the most compact Magellano model in the line-up.
The Italian luxury motor yacht maker has launched its own boat show at its Avigliana, Italy headquarters to celebrate the arrival of its newest flybridge model, over the same days as scheduled for the Cannes event.
The Magellano 25 Metri pushes boundaries, featuring the work of terrestrial architect Vincenzo De Cotiis, moving into boats for the first time.
As well as a console on the flybridge, the new motor yacht has a raised pilot house accessed via a spiral staircase descending from overhead. Inside, the pilot house is accessed via the saloon’s “lobby”, basically separating the Magellano 25 Metri’s crew so that they don’t have to disturb the boat’s guests, even while accessing the bridge.
If the owner or any of the guests want to join the captain while the boat is underway, the pilot house includes a comfortable chaise longue.
The crew quarters, meanwhile, are located in the bow.
Once at your destination, the Magellano 25 Metri transforms to “hotel mode”, tapping into a bank of lithium ion batteries that replace a traditional generator for providing on-board electrical needs.
The bank of batteries is capable of powering the ship’s electric load for up to six hours during the day, and for up to eight hours overnight when power needs fall.
Azimut says the Magellano 25 Metri’s air-conditioning system taps into NASA-developed technology to constantly replace the air circulating through the boat, as well as sanitising it to eliminate “harmful microorganisms” that may be brought onboard.
Making this boat special is an increased use of carbon-fibre throughout to reduce weight. That includes the flybridge and its hardtop, and the tender garage.
The Magellano 25 Metri’s hull is a new generation for the brand. Called a “dual mode" hull, it includes an upper chine with a wider beam to provide more stability at lower speeds. At higher speeds, the hull utilises its low-resistance lower chines to get onto the plane.
Below, the Magellano 25 Metri features three double rooms including a full-beam aft stateroom with private ensuite, as well as a pair of single bunks.
Up front, the crew quarters featuring a double and single can come with optional separate heads so the crew does not have to share.
Prices ex-factory start from €4.68 million, which translates to around $A7.6 million.
