2019 Yamaha WaveRunner FX SVHO and FX HO prices and specs announced

Yamaha is in a race against time to get new generation FX series in showrooms before Christmas

Australian pricing and estimated delivery times have arrived for the 2019 Yamaha FX WaveRunner series, marking the first full model change in six years.

All Yamaha FX models share a completely redesigned deck and hull that’s slightly wider and longer than before – for improved stability in choppy conditions – has 33 per cent more storage space in the nose, a larger waterproof glovebox, and drain holes in the footwells.

The 2019 Yamaha FX range also comes with an industry-first digital touchscreen dash that includes a PIN code to unlock the craft (no key necessary), three speeds for “no wake” mode, and the option of RAM accessory mounts for fishfinders, GPS units and Bluetooth speakers.

However, the Yamaha FX SVHO’s supercharged 1.8-litre four-cylinder and the Yamaha FX HO’s non-supercharged 1.8-litre four-cylinder engines are unchanged from before, and still come with 70-litre fuel tanks.

The price has crept up by $500 across the range compared with the previous full RRP, and is $2500 dearer than the current price for equivalent 2018 Yamaha FX runout models.

Race against time

Yamaha is in a race against time to get the 2019 FX range in Australian showrooms before Christmas and has given an assurance it is not holding back stock until it sells out of 2018 models.

Yamaha says increased demand in the lead-up to summer has almost exhausted remaining supplies of the 2018 Yamaha FX HO series, while there is only a limited number of 2018 FX SVHOs to clear.

The company says there will not be a blackout of supply between the runout of the 2018 model and the arrival of the 2019 series.

Yamaha has confirmed the first batch of 2019 Yamaha FX models are yet to leave the US factory, which means shipping times could push their arrival into the new year.

Jason Harris, the general manager of Yamaha sales, told boatsales.com.au: “At this stage it’s either going to be right on that Christmas break, or directly afterwards.”

Harris says the new FX series is expected to help boost Yamaha WaveRunner sales in 2019 because “it gives us an opportunity to relaunch the product, and with anything new comes the curiosity of what it’s about”.

Price rises

When asked about the price rise, Harris said: “As soon as you add features to a craft there’s always a cost associated to that. We’ve tried to keep that (price rise) as minimal as possible.”

The price bump has done little to dampen interest. Yamaha says dealers are already holding orders for the new FX range even before the first demo models have arrived.
