Local boat builders are showing their support for the Gold Coast International Marine Expo’s (GCIME) new 2015 dates, which align with the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, despite criticism of the move from some other quarters.
The organisers of the GCIME announced their new show dates of May 21-24, with the hope of working together with the Gold Coast’s other major marine event at Sanctuary Cove.
LOCAL BOATBUILDER SUPPORT
With the support of premium Gold Coast shipyards and boatbuilders including Gold Coast City Marina & Shipyard, Riviera, Quintrex, Clipper Motor Yachts, International Paint, The Boat Works and Stefan Boating World, the Expo seeks to unite the local industry to benefit not only each other but exhibitors and visitors.
The group of marine industry businesses have been working together since 2010 to help create and grow the GCIME and saw great opportunity with moving the show dates to earlier in the year.
The GCIME organisers invited Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show to work together to elevate both events and become one of the largest of its type in the Southern Hemisphere.
TELLING IT STRAIGHT
Paul Phelan, Managing Director of Telwater, parent company of Australia’s leading Aluminium boat brands including Quintrex, Stacer and Savage, said the move of dates was intended to increase the profile and profitability of both events.
"I have always been an advocate for unifying the industry and believe the more we work together and support each other, the better we will all be.
"Not only does May offer great weather on the Gold Coast it suits the market for us as a manufacturer as it is more in line with our new model releases," Mr Phelan said.
"We are disappointed that SCIBS stated they do not share this view or value the opportunities that working together will create, and we hope we will be able to work with them more closely in the future."
"A united front has seen the Gold Coast Marine Expo grow from strength to strength and I believe continuing this stance will create a positive long lasting impact on the boating industry," Mr Phelan said.
FERRY CONNECTIONS
With the GCIME set to organise a ferry to take visitors between key locations including Marina Mirage, Sanctuary Cove and Riviera; visitors would not have to choose which event to attend but experience all locations and exhibitors on offer.
Set to draw crowds not only from around Queensland but a large number of interstate and international visitors, combined efforts from both events would also have positive effects on the Gold Coast economy.
OPEN TO EXHIBITORS
The GCIME opened applications for exhibitors to a strong response and plans to showcase everything from superyachts to kayaks, jet skis to fishing equipment and offer affordable family fun including factory tours, live demonstrations and attractions across the four-day event.
