2013 Pirtek Fishing Challenge this weekend
Australia's biggest fish comp with record price poolAustralia biggest national fishing competition, the annual Pirtek Fishing Challenge will be held this Sunday (March 24). Conceived to raise funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, the competition boasts a record prize pool worth more than $145,000 this year.
Last count, more than 7000 people had entered, setting a new record-sized fishing field for the vent.
Double MotoGP World Champion and keen fisherman, Casey Stoner has entered and put a challenge out to his fellow Australian anglers to be a part of the Pirtek Fishing Challenge this weekend right around the country.
“I moved close to the water with the idea of going fishing on a regular basis. I enjoy the sport and the Pirtek Fishing Challenge provides a unique event for all anglers while raising money for a great cause at the same time.
“It’s brilliant that anyone can compete and it only costs $20 to enter, so it is an affordable and fun day out, especially if you can do it with some good mates or family,” Stoner says.
The competition is open to everyone from mums and dads to kids and grandparents. There are 20 target species nationally with four prize packs per species, plus a cash prize if you catch the ‘Mystery Length’ fish in your chosen category. Junior anglers (under-16) score BCF gift vouchers for first and second.
Once a targeted species has been selected, a photograph has to be taken with the angler’s biggest example of that species next to the supplied brag mat. That pic is the one to be uploaded to the website. The fish is required to be released back into the wild.
Even if you don’t catch the biggest fish (or any fish at all), competitors are in the draw to win one of the On The Water Prizes -- an Evinrude 75hp E-TEC outboard engine (valued at $13,138); an Ocean Kayak Prowler Pack (valued at $4400); a Lowrance HDS Generation 2 electronics package (valued up to $2200); a Berkley fishing tackle pack or a Roman Camping package (both valued up to $2000); or a $1800 BCF spending spree.
The one-day, catch-and-release -- photographic proof needed -- competition will be held this Sunday, March 24, from 6.00 AM and 6.00 PM. Target species will be revealed on Saturday, 2 March at 12 noon via the website, leaving plenty of time to plan your fishing trip.
Once registered, each competitor’s designated angler number and a repeat list of the target species are sent via email. Full competition rules, instructions on photographing your fish, catch and release techniques, and comp updates and results at www.pirtekfishingchallenge.com.au.
