The Gold Coast 2012 Flathead Classic is building to be a great event. Whether you are a tournament regular or a first timer, this iconic tournament now in its 19th year should be on your calendar.
The organisers say that it's so much more than a fishing comp with a great event wrapped around excellent fishing. The Gold Coast is renowned for its big flathead and there is no better time to go crocodile hunting than this time of year.
The format is over two and a half days and is an eco-friendly catch-and-release comp, so no live wells are needed.
What you do need though is a digital camera to capture your catches with against the tournament ruler which is provided at our briefing. Please note it is a lure-and-fly comp so no bait allowed. A full copy of the rules is available on the web site.
The comp can be fished as a team of two or team of three and there are Champion Team and individual trophy categories along with some other species trophies. However all of the big prizes are won by random draw! Yes that's right you don't have to be the best angler to take home the great Blue Fin Wildcat, Suzuki outboard and Oceanic Trailer package!
The entry fee includes: Tournament entry, a team tournament bag packed full of goodies, tournament shirt for each angler plus three dinners and one lunch.
The tournament is famous for its bumper raffles so be sure to bring along some cash each night to get among the prizes.
The event precinct is at Broadwater Parklands (previously known as Anzac Park) right next door to the Southport Swimming Pool.
