2009-12 ISAF Racing Signals Sticker
The new International Sailing Federation (ISAF) 2009–2012 racing rules started in all countries on New Year's Day, but now Yacht Brand Products (YBF) has published an adhesive colour racing signals sticker to provide sailors with an onboard instant visual guideYBF said its new 2009–2012 ISAF Racing Signals Sticker (entitled 2009+ in case nothing changes in 2013) has been designed with the help of a senior international official ISAF judge, to ensure accuracy according to the new rules. The sticker cannot show all of the rules' comprehensive details, so wording is brief and refers yachties to the official rules by numbers if necessary.
There are 14 changes to the racing rules signals. These include: the adding of the O flag (O for ooching, pumping or rocking permitted with two options depending on where it is flown), and the R flag with one gun (no ooching, rocking or pumping); the S flag now has three options; the AP flags combination has different wording and the D flag has been added to advise about the warning signal; the orange flag has an additional meaning and another detail change; and, the yellow flag has altered wording.
YBF said the most obvious changes to the sticker design are the five C flag options, either alone or pairing it with new flags or boards: a green triangle, a red rectangle, a minus (-) sign and a plus (+) sign, which refer to mark changes, leg lengths or a compass bearing.
According to YBF, Yachting Victoria said some race series that span 2008 and 2009, will continue to use the 2005–2008 rules until the end of the last race - each clubs' sailing instructions will make it clear which to use.
This new racing signals sticker (code RSS) is printed in seven colours and is now enlarged to the same 36 x 16cm size as YBF's International Code Flag Sticker (code CFS).
Both stickers are printed with vinyl inks on vinyl with strong adhesive and are suitable for exposed marine conditions. The CFS shows flags of the alphabet with spoken alphabet words (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, etc.), their meanings (Diver below, Dangerous cargo, Yes, etc.), Morse code, numeral pennants, naval numeral flags, sailing rigs and popular knots.
YBF said both stickers will be available at most chandleries and have a recommended retail price of $9.95.
